Louise Bentall
Penny had a deep love and respect for the Arts. Her creativity spanned: ceramics, printmaking, fibre and textile design as well as a rich interest in theatre and architecture. After raising a family Penny taught Art History at UBC where she took her students to a variety of countries around the world to experience art and form. Once retired Penny moved to Bowen Island to live in what is now Penny Lou Cottage. Anyone who would walk through Penny’s door, whether aged one to one hundred, would be offered a piece of paper to draw on or a handful of clay to create.
Louise was artistic to the core. She worked with passion for many arts organizations in the lower mainland, specifically in dance and theatre. She was compassionate, intelligent and feisty with a keen attention to detail. A true original, she used her gifts in service of the arts and other creative endeavours that worked to make the world a better place. After she retired, she moved back to Bowen Island, drawn to its beauty and lifestyle.
Penny and Louise spent countless hours at the cottage during Penny’s last years. They shared a deep love of classic Hollywood movies, literature, art and enjoyed the companionship that exists between two highly creative people.
We hope everyone who stays at Penny Lou Cottage will enjoy carrying on the tradition of creativity in this space.
